LED Display Power Consumption: Estimate Energy Cost and Plan the Right Supply
Estimate LED display running cost from screen area, an appropriate operating power figure, daily hours and your electricity tariff. Plan the electrical supply separately using the exact configuration and maximum-demand requirements; a typical-consumption figure is not a circuit rating.
Start with the right unit and scope
Watts (W) describe power at a moment; kilowatts (kW) equal watts divided by 1,000. Kilowatt-hours (kWh) describe energy over time. A datasheet figure in W/m² must be multiplied by the installed display area, while a per-cabinet figure must be multiplied by cabinet count. Check whether the figure covers display cabinets only or includes processing, ventilation and other equipment. Do not apply one model’s consumption to every LED wall.
Use a cabinet layout to establish the area
EcoBeam lists 960 × 960 mm cabinets. An illustrative eight-column by four-row layout uses 32 cabinets and measures 7.68 × 3.84 m: 29.4912 m². The current product table lists average/maximum consumption of 186/500 W/m². These are the source table’s figures, not measurements of your planned installation. Confirm the configuration and the conditions behind both figures before ordering.
Calculate a transparent running-cost scenario
Using the listed average as an assumption: 29.4912 m² × 186 W/m² ÷ 1,000 = approximately 5.49 kW. At 12 hours per day, this gives approximately 65.8 kWh per day. For 30 such days, multiply the unrounded result by 30 to obtain about 1,975 kWh. At an illustrative tariff of USD 0.15/kWh, that is about USD 296 for display energy over those 30 days. The tariff and schedule are examples, not a US market average or a guaranteed bill.
Keep electrical capacity separate from the energy estimate
Using the listed maximum for the same area gives about 14.75 kW of display power. This is a planning reference, not an electrical design. The final supply must account for actual cabinet ratings, voltage, phase arrangement, power factor, inrush, distribution, protective devices and applicable local rules. Auxiliary equipment adds load. Ask qualified electrical personnel to specify the system; do not size circuits from the 5.49 kW operating-cost example.
Explain why real consumption changes
Brightness settings, image content, operating hours and the selected hardware influence consumption. An average figure without a defined measurement method cannot predict every operating condition. Nighttime dimming may reduce consumption when suitable, but brightness must still meet visibility and local requirements. Request a measured demonstration or documented test conditions for the proposed configuration. A claim of a fixed energy-saving percentage is not a substitute for that evidence.
Compare proposals on the same operating assumptions
Use the same wall area, brightness schedule, content, operating hours and electricity tariff for both proposals. Add processors, cooling or ventilation, control equipment and other relevant loads where they are outside the display figure. Utility demand charges, taxes and tariff periods may change the actual bill. Keep energy cost separate from maintenance, spares and access costs when comparing total ownership.
Send a short power-planning brief
Share the installation location, wall dimensions, operating hours, day/night brightness needs and available site supply. If you do not know the electrical details, begin with the site and screen brief so the supplier can provide configuration-specific data for your local electrician. Request average-consumption test conditions, maximum ratings and the power-distribution scope in the written proposal.

Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate LED screen electricity cost?
Multiply screen area by the appropriate W/m² figure, divide by 1,000, then multiply by hours and the electricity tariff per kWh. Include other equipment and utility charges as relevant. Actual consumption needs configuration-specific assumptions.
Can I use average power consumption to size the electrical supply?
No. Average consumption supports an operating-cost scenario. Electrical supply and protection need the actual maximum-demand information and a qualified site-specific design.
Is the EcoBeam energy example a guaranteed saving?
No. It illustrates the current table’s consumption figures with a stated layout, schedule and hypothetical tariff. It is not a measured project result or an energy-saving promise.
